As the health and economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 virus unfold, GFDRR stands in solidarity with client countries, partners, and colleagues and families affected around the world. Committed to continuously working to build resilience of societies and systems, the facility’s long experience in disaster risk management provides a strong foundation for action as we grapple with ever-more complex and challenging threats. The fundamental pillars of disaster risk management – risk identification, risk reduction, preparedness, financial protection, and resilient recovery – combined with investments that help strengthen the policies and institutions for disaster risk management, remain our priorities. We are inspired by the work of global, regional, national, and local leaders who are facing difficult decisions, first responders and health care workers who are accepting risk as they care for others, and communities that are coming together to support each other in times of need.
