Sushma Joshi is a Nepali writer and filmmaker based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Her fiction and non-fiction works discuss Nepal’s civil conflict, as well as stories of globalization, migration and diaspora.
Her non-fiction works have appeared in The Kathmandu Post, The Nation Weekly, Republica, Himal Southasian, The Indian Express (US edition), Utne Reader, Ms., Z Net, The Irrawaddy, Bertelsmann Future Challenges, and other publications.
In The Quake, Susham captures the horror of having been buried in Mangal Hiti, Patan Durbar Square, Kathmandu in the 2015 earthquake. Combining watercolor paintings with a narrative written in first person, she brings the reader through her personal story of fear, hope, and triumph as she was forced to find a way to cope with the deeply personal aftereffects of the earthquake on her everyday life.
