This piece depicts a downtown park in Gyumri city, Armenia. This park holds historical local significance as it became a key resource for individuals who experienced the earthquake of December 1988. Now nicknamed “Victory Park”, the residents of Gyumri city remember this park for how it served as a space of displacement for those who lost their houses, as well as a place of tension. Campaigns and protests were led to save this park as in the aftermath of the earthquake, many residents began cutting down trees to get firewood as they had lost all heat in their homes.
