Applications: High-level understanding of a city’s potential future climate risks and impacts, in relation to its demographic and socioeconomic contexts
Data requirement: Global data with option to include local data.
Final deliverables: An interactive web platform or slide deck that examines a city's future development in the context of climate change. The results are presented through maps and graphs, illustrating projections for population density, GDP, land use, and climate impacts, using selected climate scenarios and time frames from 2050 to 2100. This comprehensive analysis aids in understanding and planning for future urban development and climate resilience.
Geographic scope: City-level
Hazards covered: Future projections of climate-induced risks and impacts
Indicative Cost / working time: $500 - $9k
Time Required for delivery: 2-3 weeks
The City Future Scan focuses on a city’s future development through the lens of climate change. Using global datasets, it covers five broad areas: 1) population and demographic changes, including population density, total population, age distribution, and city’s share of national population; 2) economic activities, including GDP, city’s share of national GDP, and anthropogenic heat emissions; 3) land use and built-up areas evolution, including built-up and land use projections; 4) climate variables on temperature and precipitation; and 5) climate-induced risks and impacts, including heat-related impacts, water-related impacts, and other biophysical impacts. The data are presented as easy-to-understand maps and graphs, using selected climate scenarios and time frames (2050-2100, depending on data availability).
