Addis Ababa is urbanizing and growing at a rapid pace. The city faces potential shocks and stresses that could hinder it from achieving its development goals. These include urban flooding, fire, earthquakes, rapid urbanization, water scarcity, unemployment, and social vulnerability. In February 2015, Addis Ababa invited a team of specialists from the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) and the World Bank Group to implement the CityStrength Diagnostic in close collaboration with local officials, technical staff, and stakeholders. The objective of this publication is to share the findings of the diagnostic and the priority actions and investments agreed with local leaders.
