On 19-21 September 2018, the ECOWAS Hydromet Forum and DRR Platform was held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, bringing together 218 participants, including 37 women, from governments, academia, civil society, meteorological institutions, NGOs, the private sector and development partners.
The objective of the event was to deliberate on and set priorities for how weather, water, climate information and DRM strategies and services can be strengthened, and to discuss how the delivery of climate services can be improved to achieve sustainable development and reduce disaster and climate risk in the ECOWAS region.
The Forum was convened and organized under the leadership of ECOWAS, in partnership with the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and in close coordination with the Bureau of the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites User Forum, and with support and technical contributions from the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement – AFD), AfDB, the Permanent Interstate Committee for drought control in the Sahel, UNDP, UNDRR, WASCAL, WFP, WMO and the World Bank/GFDRR.
