This performance evaluation using Case Study design and mixed methods focused on open- source, DIY remote weather stations (RWSs) in Sri Lanka. First innovated under a project implemented by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), this risk information technology was subsequently the focus of a Challenge Fund (CF) project, also implemented by IWMI. The Challenge Fund is a joint initiative of GFDRR and UK Aid and seeks to bridge the gap between technology and on-the-ground user needs in the field of disaster risk identification, thereby building greater disaster resilience. The scope of this evaluation included, but was not limited to, the IWMI Challenge Fund project; it also looked at broader efforts involving this technology in Sri Lanka.
