Context and Objectives

The third edition of the World Reconstruction Conference (WRC3) brought together approximately 800 participants from civil society, national and local governments, academia, the private sector and international organizations from around the world in Brussels from 6-8 June 2017. The conference addressed the role of post-crisis recovery and reconstruction for resilience building and disaster risk reduction and shared experience with a view to advance the implementation of the 2015 Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The conference was jointly organized by the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, the European Commission, UNDP, and GFDRR/World Bank.

Main Activities and Results

Through funding from the ACP-EU NDRR Program, GFDRR enabled the attendance and participation of over 70 delegates from ACP countries to the conference, including as speakers and panellists. The delegates were able to attend some of the 29 sessions that were organised during the WRC3 around four main themes:

  • Recovery interventions;
  • Recovery in conflict and fragile situations;
  • Recovery preparedness; and
  • Leveraging political consensus on Sendai Priority 4.
