From developing and adopting national policies on disaster risk management (DRM) and setting new institutions, to initiating risk assessments and finding innovative ways to finance disaster preparedness— Sub-Saharan African countries have exhibited effective leadership and commitment to the global DRM agenda. This session explored the success achieved and lessons learned thus far.

This round of the Resilience Dialogue explored how to scale up and sustain funding and implementation of disaster and climate risk programs to advance post-2015 resilience goals.

The Organization for Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Regional Engineering Workshop in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) built upon ongoing disaster risk reduction activities in the region, namely through the Regional Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Program (RDVRP) and the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR). 

500 participants from over 60 countries explored innovative approaches for restoring lives, livelihoods, and assets that are more resilient to future natural hazards.

UR2014 convened 840 participants from more than 60 countries. Under the theme "Producing Actionable Information," 24 technical sessions and workshops led by various international organizations were held, covering topics such as decision-making under uncertainty, and risk modeling in the financial sector.

A live chat took a deep dive into how India responded effectively to Cyclone Phailin, and what lessons can be gleaned from the country's response.

A technical workshop was held in Brussels, Belgium from November 4-7, 2013, to develop initial inputs for the Disaster Recovery Framework Guide and to consult on key issues related to recovery and reconstruction.

This book contains a summary description of probabilistic modeling of disaster risk that can be generated as a result of natural hazards. Both conceptual bases are presented as a series of applications for the purpose of risk management in the context of planning socio-economic and sustainable development.
