Join us to hear how for over a decade, the Africa, Caribbean, Pacific-European Union Natural Disaster Risk Reduction (ACP-EU NDRR) Program has helped build resilience to natural hazards across the African, Caribbean and Pacific regions, through regional, country and local-level activities.
Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact: infoacpeu@worldbank.org.
This event is co-organized by the European Union (EU), the Organization for African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR).
CRP presented its work on geospatial planning and the use of satellite data in a webinar hosted by the Lahore University of Management Sciences. Leveraging satellite data and transforming it in compelling interactive maps helps CRP to communicate effectively with decision-makers on their urban resilience challenges and how to best address them.
Mark your calendars for the virtual launch event to collectively celebrate the monumental accomplishment and availability of the International Guidelines on Natural and Nature-Based Features for Flood Risk Management. The event will be live-streamed on YouTube – integrating a live host with recorded guest speakers, imagery from the document, a keynote address, and a live web-ex panel.
The development of the guidelines was initiated and led by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as a part of its Engineering With Nature® (EWN) Initiative, with the support of GFDRR and the World Bank.
The DC Office of International French Business Delegation (MEDEF) invites you to participate in its next expert webinar on the sustainable infrastructure sector and disaster risk management, on Thursday, September 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (DC time). This session will feature Frederico PEDROSO, Disaster Risk Management Specialist, GFDRR, and his teams; and will be chaired by Gérard WOLF, president of the Sustainable Cities task force and president of BRICS Access.
The webinar will provide an overview of the current strategy and projects of the World Bank Group in the disaster risk management sector, as well as an overview of case studies, technological solutions, and field feedback from French companies in this domain. Finally, the event aims to discuss the opportunities and possible obstacles encountered in the field by actors of the French private sector.
We are delighted to invite you to our second meeting of the Disaster Mobility Data Network. This session will focus on epidemics and post-disaster displacement. In addition to the speaker’s presentations, we will discuss the upcoming network activities.
The network aims to provide a platform for data scientists and the disaster risk management community to connect and share best practices.
Presentations:
Caroline O’Flaherty Buckee – Thinking clearly about social aspects of infectious disease transmission
Takahiro Yabe – Post-disaster population displacement and recovery analysis using human mobility data
Moderator:
Andrea Garcia Tapia (Community Manager, Disaster Mobility Data Network)
We are delighted to invite you to the launch meeting of the Disaster Mobility Data Network (DMDN) on July 22, 2021 at 9:00 am - 10:00 am EST.
Changes in mobile phone technology, notably the near-ubiquity in many places of GPS-enabled smartphones, have altered the ways that response agencies and researchers understand and respond to crises. As this data becomes mainstream in emergency management, key issues of data capacity and data literacy - as well as ethics, privacy, and data protection - become increasingly pressing.
The Network will provide a platform for data scientists and the disaster risk management community to connect and share best practices around use of mobility data for disaster preparedness and response. Join us for the inaugural call featuring:
- Sylvain Ponserre (Internal Displacement Monitoring Center): Data on post-disaster displacement: challenges and gaps.
- Guanghua Chi (Facebook): New short-term population displacement methodology in FB Disaster Maps.
- Andrew Schroeder and Maham Khan (Direct Relief / GFDRR): Disaster mobility situation reports; roadmap for the DMDN.
Open discussion with network members: Harnessing mobility data for disaster risk management.
Now in its 5th year, I4C’s 2021 edition will be entirely virtual. It will run over 3 days, from May 25-27, each day comprising high-level plenaries along with a Workshop Program which provides a forum for practitioners to demonstrate how to achieve a resilient and low-carbon future.
The three-day program will also include a Marketplace, where public and private sector organizations will be able to showcase their climate action initiatives and engage with conference participants.
The Spring 2021 Consultative Group (CG) meeting of GFDRR will take place virtually through Webex on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
